Next-Gent Chevy Avalanche 2024 Changes, Performance, Specs – The 2024 Chevrolet Avalanche is essentially indistinguishable from its predecessor and is built to compete in the growing market for compact pickup trucks.
The Ford Maverick, Honda Ridgeline, and Nissan Frontier are all newer small cars that are better made and more convenient than their predecessors.
The lack of standard safety and comfort equipment is likely to blame for the Avalanche’s dwindling sales. Even though avalanches are still very impressive, the more boxy Canyon is now more desirable.
The General isn’t the only contender to try something new with his look to get ahead. Like the new Honda Ridgeline, the new Nissan Frontier is based on an SUV but has a more modern appearance and interior.
Next-Gent Chevy Avalanche 2024 Redesign
Previously available as an upgrade on the LT and Z71, the Trail Boss off-road package is now standard on the 2024 Chevrolet Avalanche. In 2024, both the regular work truck and the off-road ZR2 will be redesigned.
The Avalanche, in celebration of its eighth year, has dressed in an ugly blue birthday outfit. Add square wheel arches, extreme fender flares, an air dam that acts as a skid plate, and bright red tow hooks to your regular pickup truck to give it a rough new look.
You’ll find a manual console shifter, a black plastic interior, a simple 7.0-inch touchscreen, and a temperature control panel with buttons and gauges on the inside.
When compared to the 3.6-liter V-6’s 308 hp, 275 lb-ft of torque, and 7,000 lb towing capacity when paired with rear-wheel drive, the base 2.5-liter inline-4 engine’s 200 hp falls short. This vehicle’s 181-horsepower turbodiesel inline-four engine and 369-pound-feet of torque from its 6-speed automatic transmission allow it to pull up to 7,700 pounds.
The original look of the vehicle is protected by the leaf springs in the back. While the extra space in the back of an extended cab means it may technically accommodate two people, it is typically used for cargo.
There are five total seats in a crew cab, and the two in the back can be folded forward to increase the visibility behind the vehicle for your dog or to make more storage for your gear. All sorts of items can be stored in either the 6-foot-two-inch long box or the 5-foot-two-inch short box thanks to the thirteen tie-downs and the convenient corner steps.
The Work Truck (WT) foundational model comes standard with a power accessory, USB connection, and air conditioning, as well as an 8.0-inch touchscreen that is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
In an effort to keep costs down, Chevrolet only includes lane-departure warnings on a small subset of its vehicles, and even then, only as part of expensive option packages. There is no emergency braking system in place.
Interior Design
The Chevy Avalanche 2024 stands out from the competition thanks to its flexible bed options, which include a 5-foot-2 short bed with a crew cab and a 6-foot-2 long bed with a crew cab or an extended cab. The only positives are the beds and the absence of noise in the stairwells. The back seats in the Avalanche haven’t changed much in the eight years since it was first released. For this reason, it warrants a perfect score of 5 out of 5.
The rear doors of the extended cab swing outward, providing easy access to the two little seats in the back. These chairs are unique in that they conceal a storage space under the seat, where you may put your blankets, pillows, and other supplies. We and our pets love the forward-facing, 60/40-split rear seats of the crew cab because they are as comfortable as church pews.
Heat and power adjustments can be added to the standard vinyl, fabric, or leather front seats. The front seats are more like church pews in terms of use than comfort.
Engine Performance
If you want to get the most out of your 2024 Chevrolet Avalanche, you’ll need to swap out the base 2.5-liter inline-four that comes with the vehicle. It boasts 200 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque, making it capable of accelerating and towing like a small child with a long list of chores.
It’s true that the rear-wheel-drive SUV’s inline-4 engine and 6-speed automatic transmission allow for a towing capacity of up to 3,500 pounds, but so do the vast majority of crossover SUVs, albeit with somewhat less power. As with other Avalanche owners, we’d move up a tier if we could afford it.
The car can tow up to 7,000 pounds thanks to the 3.6-liter V-6 engine’s 308 hp and 275 lb-ft of torque. This is one of the most contentious issues with midsize SUVs, along with cargo space. The V-6’s 8-speed auto is more smooth and more economical, making it the superior performer of the two.
This vehicle can pull up to 7,700 pounds because it has a turbodiesel 2.8-liter inline-4 engine and a 6-speed automated transmission. Although it gets 30 mpg on the interstate, the only diesel in this class, other than the comparable GMC Canyon, is louder and less refined in the city. The 2024 Chevrolet Avalanche’s solid rear axle and leaf springs make it seem and drive like an outdated Toyota Tacoma, making it a step down from the unibody Honda Ridgeline in terms of comfort and agility.
The ZR2 package improves off-road capability with its 2.0-inch lift, 3.5-inch wider track, adjustable spool valve dampers, and front and rear lockers. The Bison package, it’s on par with the best open-bed off-road vehicles like the Jeep Gladiator Rubicon and Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro.

Chevrolet offers the 2024 Avalanche in four trim levels: WT, LT, Z71, and ZR2. The ZR2 Bison package more than doubles the starting price of around $27,000.
